About First Meta™ and its culture

First Meta™ is a high-growth, venture-backed start-up that provides a full suite of financial services for virtual worlds like Second Life. The company launched the first virtual-currency-denominated credit card, the MetaCard™, on 31 July, 2007, and is currently expanding into new products and new markets.

First Meta™ was founded in February 2007 by Douglas Abrams and Aileen Sim who have been working together for 5 years.

Positions Available

VP, Business Development

As Vice President of Business Development, your primary responsibility is to help the company expand into new markets. This includes (but is not limited to) launching into new virtual worlds and platforms, new products, creating strategic partnerships and developing and executing on new strategies to drive the growth of the company. You will not just participate in, but play a key role in deciding the overall strategic direction of the company.

You should have good communication and interpersonal skills. Experience with virtual worlds or new media is a bonus, but NOT a requirement.

This is a full-time position based in Singapore.

Developers

We are primarily using the LAMP stack (P being PHP) for our systems. However, we do NOT need you to have an ungodly number of years of experience with LAMP and a degree or two to top it all off.

We need "good coders" and "great hackers" who are motivated, flexible and resourceful. We need people who are not afraid to explore new technologies and learn on the job. We want people who code as a hobby.

You will be working directly with our CTO. He has been coding for 8 years and is as geeky as you can get. You will be responsible for maintaining and upgrading the existing system. You will also have the opportunity to learn new technologies and build new products that will have significant impact on the company.

We’re looking for preferably full-time people based in Singapore but will consider other arrangements (part-time / project-based / freelance etc.)

Operations Manager

You will work with the COO to ensure that the smooth running of the company's daily operations. Because the company is operating in a radically new environment, it needs new tools, processes and policies to maximise efficiency and reduce operational risks (which is especially critical for financial services), and you will have a say in establishing tools processes and policies.

You should be meticulous and detail-oriented, but at the same time able to see the big picture.

This is a full-time position based in Singapore.

Marketing Executives

You will work closely with our VP of Sales & Marketing in all areas of sales and marketing, including brand building, events, advertising and promotions, PR, establishing sales channels etc. This role is particularly challenging and exciting as we are operating in a radically new market. Also, the company is currently expanding into new virtual worlds which would provide much opportunity for experimentation and learning.

Either a full-time position or internship based in Singapore.

Project Manager

You will be responsible for managing projects especially in the area of integrating the company's products and services with partners and vendors, and managing those accounts. This position will require you to work with all areas in the company including tech, marketing, operations etc. so you should be comfortable with that. You'll need good presentation and communication skills.

Familiarity with Second Life or other virtual worlds is a plus but not a requisite.

Sales Affiliates (Second Life)

You will be responsible for acquiring and supporting customers in within Second Life. You will be selling MetaCard™ as well as new services to both merchants and residents.

This is a Second Life-based position.
